Feast on This! Film Festival - November 2016
/Despite the 2016 elections, over 250 people attended the "2016 Feast on This! Film Festival". Each critically acclaimed film had its own topic, screened in an appropriate venue (to the topic), and local experts on hand afterward to brainstorm solutions to our community’s food security issues.
Last year, New Hampshire lost more than 16% of its dairy operations due to consistently low milk pricing and the drought. Filmmakers David Simonds and Sarah Gardner, joined Stonewall Farm and Monadnock Buy Local in a “meet and greet” and community conversation on steps to ensure the future of local dairy farms following a screening of their film, “Forgotten Farms” — a NE-based documentary examining dairy farmers struggle to survive amidst artisan cheese and baby greens.
Forgotten Farms served as a perfect backdrop for local dairy farmers, stakeholders and the hosts to explore the issues and ultimately, provide the community with action steps which support farmers like donating to the NH Emergency Dairy Fund.
Feast on This! Film Festival is part of a community-wide effort to inform and draw attention to the important economic, physical and social value of locally grown food and the problems associated with that.
